Off For a While

Posted by: SimplyMoroccan   in Out of topic

Yep, I have to. I am having my final exams, so I should get away for a little way. Then, I must find an internship as well. (If you have any offers… ;-) )

Wish me luck everyone :–)

Will be back soon.

A Note About Transliteration

Posted by: SimplyMoroccan   in Out of topic

I decided to make some changes to make the transliteration here easier, please le me know if you have any better suggestions.

? : I used to use “ for the letter 3ayn ?, but now I am replacing it with the number 3 that you can see everywhere in transliteration for this letter.

? : I used to use H for it, and that creates a confusion when I forget and capitalize h in the beginning of sentences, so I will be using 7 for it, again just as it’s widely used as so everywhere else.

Hamza: To mark its sharp sound, I use 2.

?: You will find it here as q, simply.

I’ll keep ? as T, and ? as S, and ? as D as I just don’t feel comfortable about using all other freaking letters such as 6 and 9.

That’s it :–)

Word 54 – brrâd

Posted by: SimplyMoroccan   in Darija Vocabulary, Objects

Brrâd is teapot in Darija. It has nothing to do with the Arabic expression: ibrîq ash-shây = ????? ?????.

brrâd: Undefined masculine singular.
lbrrâd: Defined masculine singular.
brârd: Undefined masculine plural.
lbrârd: Defined masculine plural.

In Morocco, lbrrâd is a very important part of the tea set. You can find them in multiple forms and sizes, with hammered hands. They are mainly made of tin, aluminium, brass or even silver. Lbrârd have nice motifs on them, just like on cups. You must have noticed them on the one here.
